The Seaside
We went on our first school trip to Filey with James and Lily this week. Despite James being sick on the bus twice, and Lily being sick as soon as we got off the bus, we had an amazing day! The children loved playing on the beach with all their school friends, building sandcastles and just having fun. It was nice to dedicate some time to them, a lot of time has been spent caring for Ava and toilet training Amy!
Its interesting to spend time around other parents and to see how they parent their children, I sometimes feel like I am being overprotective and I worry that this will become more of a challenge when they get older especially when they see their peers. I asked James and Lily to stay near me while we waited for the bus, and they watched on while other children played in the park down the road or in the basketball area opposite. They asked to go down to the seafront alone to fill their buckets like some of their peers; I accompanied them. It was reassuring to see a few parents who parent in a similar way to me, this parenting job is never easy!
Sports Day
We attended James’ first sports day at school this week. It was lovely to see all the children take part, and you could see that James had a great time. He didn’t really run as fast as he could, the emphasise was on taking part and you could see that James had really taken that on board, he can get quite competitive but today he was just happy to be there and it was lovely to see him so happy and relaxed amongst his peers.

Toilet Training
I know this is a strange thing to enjoy but the pride on Amy’s face when she succeeds is heart-warming! Amy refuses to wear nappies, preferring to be completely naked whenever possible. If we dress her, she undresses herself at every opportunity! Dresses have been a good option as she doesn’t need to take them off to wee, and they at least cover her a little! She has learnt so quickly, she had a few accidents on the first two days, but since has been mainly dry throughout the day, and even gets out of bed on a night. She loves the attention we give her when she does a wee on her potty or the toilet, we cheer, say well done and give her an high-five, the whole family gets involved. She jumps up and down in excitement when she is proud and she knows we are going to praise her! Unfortunately we have no ‘decent’ pictures we can share due to Amy’s nudist ways!
